Description

A museum entirely dedicated to the Oriental world and hosted by the Madonna dell’Oriente in Tagliacozzo. Opened in 1968, it still preservers important collection of Egyptian, Byzantian, and Ethiopian icons, coins, stamps, votive offerings, sacred decors from Middle East, and many other archeological findings. The collection was put together by the Franciscan father Tommaso Casale of Tagliacozzo, member of the Fraternità del Convento, as well founder of the museum. It is important to emphasize the heterogeneity of the collection that, since the year 2000, has been modernized with proper technologies to properly preserve the finds, the texts, and the document held in the library located on the upper floors of the sanctuary. You can visit the museum every day of the year, also on Sundays and holidays. It is recommended to ask the sanctuary.
