One of the most important natural museums in Abruzzo. The center is located in Pescasseroli and it was opened in 1969. The museum is divided into sections, where you will find historical documents and other materials illustrating the environmental, geological, and cultural characteristics of the territory.
In the archeological section there are some finds from the necropolis in val Fondillo, near Opi, dating back to the 7th and the 5th century. The didactic area offers many tools to approach the national park with respect. The structure also presents a conference room and an exhibition space.
In the area reserved to the fauna, you will find some of the animals living inside the protected area, like for example a Marsican bear, a deer, a roe deer, an otter, and other animals that, for one reason or another, would be able to survive in the wilderness. The botanical garden boasts a didactic lake and the typical plants of the protected area. The area has been colonized by squirrels and several different species of birds.
