Castelvecchio Subequo is located on a cliff of Mount Putano, below Mount Sirente. Its historical center is relatively small; however, there are many different places of interest with medieval, renaissance, and baroque elements, as well as archeological cultural and historical sites.
The town was built during the Middle Age thanks to the phenomenon of the fortification. According to the tradition, both Saint Francis of Assisi and Pope Celestine V visited the town, respectively in 1216 and 1294.
Among the main monuments we find: the church of Saint Francis of Assisi, le churches of the saints Giovanni Battista and Evangelist, and the country churches of S. Agata, S. Rocco, S. Agapito and of the Madonna di Loreto, as well as the fortified center of Colle Cipolla and the necropolis of Le Castagne.
Here, the combination of history and nature let everyone enjoy a complete touristic experience.
